After nearly a decade as a spokesman for either the Salt Lake Chamber or Governor Herbert, it is a little odd to sit down and talk about my own opinions. As it turns out I have some. As it also turns out, I still said nice things about the governor as I discussed a range of topics from strategic and political communication to my career path to my love of hockey. As a senior advisor to the governor, he crafted communication strategy and served as the administration’s primary spokesman. In 2015, the governor tapped Carpenter to serve as campaign manager for his 2016 re-election campaign. Prior to joining the Herbert administration, Carpenter served as executive vice president of communication at the Salt Lake Chamber, the state’s largest and longest-serving business association.
